14 days of healthier fakeaways!

Fakeaways are one of my favourite kind of meals to make. If I'm craving something comforting or indulgent then these meals always hit the spot. You miss out on the dopamine hit from the anticipation of ordering a takeaway... but you get so much more from the satisfaction of making something yourself that you know is healthier, cheaper, often quicker with my recipes and equally delicious! That's not say I'd never order a takeaway, but 80% of the time I'd opt for one of these meals instead and I'd always be so happy that I did!

The recipes

Hoisin Pork Noodles

One of the recipes I made using this weeks batch cook staple recipe - just search sticky hoisin pork for the base recipe! This comes together really quickly but is sooo delicious and satisfying. Quicker, easier and healthy than a takeaway.

Hot Honey Cajun Chicken Burgers

These smash burgers are absolutely sensational, better than a takeaway or meal out in my opinion for a fraction of the calories and price! They come together really quickly and easily and you only need one pan, tick tick tick!

Chinese Chicken Curry

I actually took this recipe from Amy Sheppard on Instagram as I thought it looked hearty and nourishing but still enough to satisfy the salty takeaway cravings and I’m pleased to report that it did not disappoint! It comes together in about 20 minutes and it's absolutely delicious - I will definitely be making it again!

Crispy Fish, Chips and Curry Sauce

If you love a chippy takeaway but you're trying to eat healthier, give this one a go. The secret is the salt and vinegar crisps to coat the fish

Chicken Tender Loaded Nachos

These chicken tender nachos are sensational! The Dorito coating just makes them sooo delicious. They taste indulgent but are actually really high protein so can make a delicious high-protein snack - perfect for a film night! Or as part of a balanced meal with some rice and veg. The recipe serves 3, or perhaps 4 if having sides! But each loaded chicken tender comes to 96 calories, 6.7g carbs, 4g fat and 8g protein.

Jack Daniel’s Sesame Chicken Strips

This recipe is a copycat of my favourite sweet, sticky chicken starter ever! This recipe is SO worth the effort, it just tastes unbelievable 😍 The calories and macros don't include the sticky rice, but with 1/2 a packet (125g) of microwaveable sticky rice with each portion, each portion comes to 755 calories and 38g protein.

Crispy Shredded Chilli Chicken with Rice

This is perfect if you’re craving a takeaway (this is true fakeaway vibes) but just want something quicker, cheaper and slightly healthier 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽 we’re cheating/ saving time and effort by using frozen crispy chicken pieces here but see the notes below if you want to make the chicken yourself to make it healthier and higher in protein for a bit more effort!

Big Mac Smash Tacos

Now this is a trend I can get behind! Although smashed tacos aren’t just a trend for me, they’re so easy to make and so versatile! And of course a Big Mac flavour is going to be absolutely delicious.

Easy Shredded Chicken Curry

This is quite likely to be the easiest curry you'll ever make. It takes a while, but you can mostly just leave it on the hob to do it's thing! The recipe makes 2 very large portions (including rice), but if pairing with extras like naan bread you could easily stretch to 3 or even 4 less-hungry people! 1/3 of the recipe (including the rice) is 362 calories, 35g carbs, 7g fat, 33g protein.

Chicken Pad Kra Pao

This was another of my favourite dishes whilst in Thailand! It's so easy to make, especially if you just serve with microwaveable sticky or jasmine rice and it's packed with flavour. The actual chicken dish is ready in just over 10 minutes! The calories include 75g (dry) or 235g (cooked) jasmine rice per person. The calories do not include the egg, but I think it really makes this dish if you like eggs! With with a medium fried egg the total calories come to 605 with 37g protein.

High-Protein Stuffed Crust Pizza

These air fryer pizzas have a slice (pardon the pun) of my heart. At 37g meat-free protein, surely it’s a no brainer!? And I always love the chance to put my Pizza Hut skills to good use. I find making pizzas so satisfying and the garlic butter on the crusts is just the cherry on top of the cake 😮‍💨

McChicken Sandwich

I love a McDonald’s as much as the next person and this is actually higher in calories than McDonald’s BUT it’s way more filling, more than 3x the protein (!!), much lower in fat and aaaaabsolutely delicious 😋👏🏻
